Thorn Song led wire-to-wire to beat 1-2 favorite Einstein by a length Friday in the Grade II $213,250 Firecracker Handicap at Churchill Downs.Thorn Song, ridden by Kent Desormeaux, ran a mile on the turf in 1:36.69. He paid $5.60 and $2.20, while Einstein returned $2.10. There was no show betting on the five-horse field.The winner, a 5-year-old son of Unbridled's Song owned by Ahmed Zayat, earned $135,780 for his sixth win in 19 starts, increasing his career total to $527,981.

Lucky Island won the $200,000 Tom Fool and Any Limit took the $150,000 First Flight Friday as Belmont Park celebrated Independence Day with a pair of seven-furlong handicap stakes run in the mud.Lucky Island beat Tasteyville by 4 1/4 lengths to remain unbeaten in four races this year. Alan Garcia was aboard for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin in the race that went in 1:22.73. The 4-year-old colt paid $5 to win.
