More than a dozen events in and around downtown Baltimore will take place. A free outdoor concert featuring Ireland’s own The Saw Doctors headlines the “And They’re Off” Kickoff at Harbor East on Friday, May 12 from 6-9 p.m.
The following morning two major events take place.
At 9am the annual Preakness 5K race will begin and end at the racetrack as horses will not be the only ones racing at Pimlico this month. Runners will be able to catch the Preakness spirit as they race around historic Old Hilltop. The Preakness 5K is the third leg of the 2007 Triple Crown 5K Challenge, which features the HopeWell Cancer Support’s “Reach Out and Run” 5K on April 30th, followed by the Center for Celiac Research’s “Making Tracks for Celiacs” 5K on May 7th.
Two hours later Preakness Celebration will stage the 33rd annual Westside Preakness Parade, a colorful procession of marching bands, equestrian units and floats, which begins at Martin Luther King Boulevard and follows Eutaw Street, ending at Lombard. Baltimore native Hasim “The Rock” Rahman, the WBC Heavyweight Champion of the world, will serve as the Grand Marshal.
The popular Miller Lite Nights begin at Power Plant Live on Wednesday, May 17 with three nights of free live music. Headliners include Mr. Greengenes, Puddle of Mudd and Faded Image.
The kid-friendly Preakness Balloon Fest begins on Thursday, May 18. The giant balloons will launch and race at Oregon Ridge for three separate sessions and will glow against the Baltimore skyline on Preakness eve.
Preakness Celebration will produce two events on the eve of the biggest single-day sporting event in the state: “Twas the Night before Preakness” concert at Belvedere Square and a fireworks show near the National Aquarium in the world famous Inner Harbor.
